The inspiration and determination to establish an organization, PEOPLE’S ASSOCIATION FOR TRAINING AND HEALTH (PATH), came from the conviction that a health program which was cherished by people and needed in the new resettlement slum community, Cheeta Camp.
The program was discontinued by Bombay Urban Industrial League for Development (BUILD) for its own reasons.
The team working in this program decided not to give up but to continue the ongoing main activities strengthened by the spirit of a new vision and mission.
BUILD donated existing infrastructure for continuing activities, the team committed to work without salary till fund is available and the nominal contribution from beneficiaries met the cost for medicines and necessary items.
In the meantime efforts to register an organization and to raise fund continued.
By 26th March 1987, PATH was registered as charitable trust and within a short period it obtained fund.
Thus PATH began its onward march by adding new programmes, expanding to other communities, experimenting new methods and approaches both in implementing programmes and managing the organization.
